Senior Care Options

There are many options available when it comes to senior care.  It is important to understand the differences between them.  At Assisted  Living Advisors of Acadiana, we are seasoned, licensed administrators in all areas of senior care, including assisted and independent living communities, skilled nursing facilities, and home healthcare agencies. Our vast industry experience allows us to remove the guesswork for you, and to determine which care setting or option is best suited for you.  We have provided basic information below regarding senior living/care options; however, it's important to understand that each individual requires a specific level of care, and care options are not one-size-fits-all.

Assisted Living

Assisted Living communities offer a homelike setting with a variety of apartment sizes. The community staff provides supportive services such as assistance with all activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, grooming), meals, housekeeping, laundry, transportation, entertainment and medication administration.  Utilities are often included, and meals are served in a restaurant style dining room setting.

Independent Living

Independent living communities offer the benefits of living independently without the burden of routine home maintenance. A variety of apartment styles are available with kitchens and numerous amenities ranging from a full-service dining room to a pool. Numerous engaging programs & social events are offered.   Medical care and assistance are typically not included.

Memory care communities provide specialized care and programming for seniors and individuals affected by Alzheimer’s or a form of memory impairment. Some companies specialize exclusively in memory care services while others provide this higher level of care in a designated area within an assisted living facility. Most communities provide a secured environment with memory focused programs for sensory and enrichment.

If you still want to live alone and in your home, but you are finding it more difficult to manage, private duty Home Care may be an option. Harmony is still available to help you navigate through the many options to find a safe and appropriate home care company to bring assistance into your home. Most of all we’re able to provide you with peace of mind that your loved one is taken care of by the best caregivers available.
